Hurricane Relief — Construction Team
REPORT FOR
October 1-6, 2009
At the beginning of September Hurricane Jimena hit the area hard
all around a 3+ hour radius of Loreto. And, La Roca Rehabilitation
Center in Santa Rosalía lost roofs from most of their buildings —
how tragic! (see pictures on right) Because this is a place where over
the past 5 years or so, many men have committed their lives to the
Lord Jesus Christ, and many families have been radically changed
as well as a result. Yes, this is a ministry that has helped the “down
and out” kind of people, as you would expect... But it has also
helped many, many ‘accountants’ and other ‘professional’ men who
have “fallen out of society” for one reason or another… So as one
analyzes things..., this is a very fruitful ministry worth supporting!
And Doug Philips who lives in that area prayed, as did many others.
Then when Lorraine and I were driving around most of the cities,
towns and communities looking at all of the disaster, we saw many
needs — especially 2 churches that need a lot of help reconstructing
their buildings..., but they were too big of a project for us to help
with… But we also visited La Roca…, and there we prayed with
the men, (bottom left) and felt the Lord asking us to do something to
help them get their feet back on the ground, so to speak —so they
would be able to reach many more men, (and their families), with
the love of Jesus Christ and the message of salvation…
We sent out emails asking for people to come and help, for people
to give financially… And on October 1-6 we had a Team with
people coming from San Diego, San Vicente, San Quintin, Loreto,
Cabo San Lucas, and Santa Rosalia — 20 men in all…
As you can see on the following pages, we fixed the roofs on the
dormitory building; re-roofed the kitchen and dining room; replaced
the roof the office building; and re-built a 1,000 sq. ft. area for their
teaching and church services; and we put porches for shade onto the
dormitory building and the dining hall.
Prayers were answered! - the money came in...; men with just the
right expertise came...; and the men even brought all the necessary
equipment without us asking…
Thank you for praying for us all, as we did this work... Please
continue to pray for La Roca — that many more men will now be
blessed at this place — that many lives will be transformed, through
the love of Jesus Christ and the message of salvation...
