On Monday, December 21, a dozen Americans joined with the staff and Bible students at Cliníca La Esperanza to prepare for “Magical Christmas” Celebration to be held the next day in San Quintín. We had been invited to assist with this special Christmas event, organized by "Los Volcanes" newspaper, that has taken place in each of the last five years. It's a charitable event where business owners, politicians, and the general public provide or donate toys to give out to the children of the San Quintín Valley-- from Colonet to El Rosario, it is a sea of children. Three years ago, the president/director of "Los Volcanes" newspaper received Christ. This year Pastor Junior and the Bible students were asked to organize the children's program.
We were happy to be part of the preparation process as bikes were built, hats were packaged, and flu prevention kits were bagged. Some of the local stores had donated some toys that they couldn’t sell because the packages had been damaged, so we dusted and repacked toys too.
Many of you must have been praying, because although it was raining when we pulled up to the open lot where the event was held, the rain stopped so we could all enjoy the games and program that the Bible School students had put together. The children really seemed to enjoy the event. Of course, at the end of the two-hour program, gifts were given to each of the children that had come. There were lots of smiles as each child received a toy, a hat, and a flu-prevention kit. The moms and dads also received hats, which were greatly appreciated, as it was a very cold and windy day. Many of the parents also received flu-prevention kits.
We don’t know exactly how many kids were there, but I heard estimates of 400-500. We do know that we gave away the 800 hats that we had taken. Thank you to all of you who knit hats for us!
Thank you to those of you who donated to help make this event special. We were able to participate through the volunteers and staff that helped, the funds that were provided, and the prayers that were lifted.
