| Palenque Surgical Team September 2008 |

The September team to Palenque, our third surgical team there this year, was once again very busy as we performed 21 major surgeries and 10 minor surgeries in 4 days. Prior to this surgical team, we had sent out an evangelical outreach team for a week of children's ministry and health fairs in rural villages near Palenque. A local doctor and dentist accompanied the team, and many people received needed care and heard of God's love for them. Michelle, a Mexican Medical staff member on the team, became acquainted with a young woman named Flor, who asked if there was something we could do to help Lucilia, her 4-year-old sister who had had a hernia since she was very small. The family did not have the resources to pay for the much-needed surgery. Although I'm not sure our surgeons knew the back story on Lucilia as they repaired her hernia several weeks later, God knew and used our team to answer that family's prayers. Michelle still keeps in touch with Flor via e-mail and reports that Lucilia is running and playing and completely recovered.
Even when there aren't teams there, Pastor Diego and Dr. Gonzalez are going out into rural communities 2-3 times each week. Dr. Gonzalez sees patients and they work with local churches to share about Christ. Through these weekly outreaches, surgical patients are lined up and many are praying to receive Christ.
