Reynaldo Ventura & Theresa Lewis

Theresa first worked alongside Mexican Medical while participating in a week-long caravan to San Quintín in the summer of 2002. After leaving Mexico at the end of that trip, she knew she would be back. In the summer of 2003, she served as an intern with Bob and Wendy Webb at their site in San Felipe. After much prayer and counsel, she moved to San Diego in the summer of 2004 to serve with Mexican Medical for a year. She worked in the office and traveled with medical and caravan teams to assist the local missionaries and translate at medical outreaches and children’s ministries.

The year commitment to Mexican Medical went by quickly, but she didn’t feel the Lord calling her to something else, so she extended her time in that role. At the beginning of 2006, Theresa went to serve at Clínica La Esperanza (The Clinic of Hope). In her time there, her commitment to the ministry there deepened and she became a full-time missionary with Mexican Medical. Part of her role at the site includes: preparing and leading visiting teams into cross-cultural ministry with children in the migrant camps, translating for medical professionals in the clinic, assisting individuals in receiving health care, and supporting the local church through transportation and by participating in their outreaches to the community. Most importantly, she shares the love and hope of Jesus Christ with those she meets.

While serving on the mission field, she met the love of her life, Reynaldo Ventura, who likes to go by Buky (it means baby in an indigenous language.) They were married on February 14, 2009 and welcomed a daughter, Elena Marie, on August 25, 2015. Buky teaches at the local Bible school and is often invited to preach in church. He is the leader of the worship band, evangelizes in the migrant camps, and uses his masonry skills for projects in the community. Buky and Theresa look forward to serving the Lord together and are excited to see how God will develop their ministry.
